About
Dr. Brossart
Hello! This is Dr. Brossart – what follows is a brief description of my training, life experiences and a bit about myself. After my doctoral internship at the American Lake VA, I taught in the doctoral counseling psychology program at Texas A&M University for 25 years. During that time, I became a tenured full Professor, conducted research, taught graduate courses, and supervised graduate students in the Counseling & Assessment Clinic. I also joined the Army Reserve, was deployed to Afghanistan and then, to assist with the COVID pandemic, to the east coast as part of the first ever CONUS deployment of Reserve forces. I enjoyed military service. The mission of being a psychologist in the Army was very fulfilling. I traveled over a nice chunk of Afghanistan assisting Soldiers with various mental health issues and the fallout from decisions made at higher levels. I consulted with Commanders of various ranks and assisted them with their concerns related to their service members. Since I joined later in life, getting any retirement benefit was unlikely. That made the decision to move on after more than 10 years of service somewhat easier. After leaving academic and military life, I worked as a psychologist in both Federal and state prisons before transitioning to private practice. My practice is 100% telehealth at this time. I am licensed in the State of Texas, but since I have also obtained the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology from the PSYPACT Commission, I can see individuals in 43 other states (go to https://psypact.gov/mpage/psypactmap for a current list of participating states and commonwealths).
Right before I was to be deployed, I was flagged during the standard medical clearance process for deployment. Long story short, I had tongue cancer, but was able to have surgery and make the deployment. Seven years later I developed an unrelated cancer. Again, this was tongue cancer and so I went through another surgery. I’m grateful I can still talk, eat, and drink. I still struggle with the after effects of that last surgery, but so far, I’m cancer free!
On the personal side, I’ve been married for 35 years, and have two children. I love animals and the outdoors. I’ve had a variety of snakes and lizards over the years, as well as aquariums, rabbits, cats, dogs, ferrets, hedgehogs, turtles, frogs, goats, and many other creatures. I’m a beginner guitarist, and love music – all kinds; however, there’s a special place in heaven for metal – haha! I also feel alive when I’m reading, typically something scientific, theoretical, or spiritual. I enjoy working out, but sometimes have to kick myself in the butt to do so.
